COSMETOLOGY
 
The Cosmetology program is a 1500 hour training program where students learn the fundamentals of the arts and science of Beauty. Cosmetology includes all facets of the beauty industry. Services of the trained cosmetologist include:
 
Hair Styling
Hair Cutting
Hair Lightening and Coloring
Temporary and Permanent Waving
Braiding
Hair Extensions
Manicure
Pedicure
Various Facial and Scalp Treatments
Makeup and Cosmetics
And much, much more…..
 
Educational objectives in the Cosmetology course include:
 
To demonstrate a broad knowledge of both the science and art of cosmetology
To use the knowledge as a foundation to be successful in the profession of cosmetology
To be prepared for profitable employment for work as a hairdresser, hair colorist, salon owner, product demonstrator, ect……
To be prepared for the state licensing examination for operators license.
 
The Cosmetology course contents include training in the areas above as well as bacteriology, chemistry, sanitation and decontamination and State Laws.

Graduation requirements for the Cosmetology program include the completion of 1500 hours of training and the completion of all theoretical and practical requirements in the curriculum with a satisfactory grade of 75% or above.

Upon successful completion of the 1500 hour program, the student will be awarded a diploma and will be eligible to take the Maryland State Licensing Exam.  The exam tests on both Theory and Practical work. Upon passing both parts of the test, the graduate will receive a Cosmetology license and be allowed to work in the field Cosmetology in the state of Maryland.
 
NAIL TECHNICIAN
 
Manicuring is the cosmetic treatment used to improve the appearance of the hands, feet, legs, arms and nails.  The art of manicuring is the actual performance of many techniques employed by the nail technician. Maryland Beauty Academy of Essex instructs students in our 250 hour Nail Technician training course that infuses theoretical discussion and lecture with practical performance demonstrations and applications.

The Nail Tech program includes training in all aspects of manicure, pedicure, artificial nails including silk wrap, gel, acrylic, free hand and nail designs as well as sanitation and sterilization.
 
Maryland Beauty Academy’s educational objectives in the Nail Technician program are:
 
To train students in the arts and science of Nail Technology
To impart the physical dexterity and practical skills required by the nail technician
To prepare students to be eligible for the Maryland State Board Nail Technician Licensing Exam
To Prepare students for profitable employment as a Nail Technician
 
Graduation requirements for the Nail Technician course include the completion of 250 hours of training and completion of all theoretical and practical required in the curriculum with a satisfactory grade average of 75% or above. Upon graduation, the student will receive a diploma from the school and will be eligible to take the Maryland State Licensing Exam for Nail Technicians where as the graduate will receive their license upon passing both Theory and Practical exams.

*Currently the Nail Technician course is only offered at our Essex Location.

REQUIREMENTS
 
Potential Students must have one or more of the following to attend:
 
High School Diploma
GED or equivalency
Transcripts stating passing of at least Ninth grade and Successful completion of Aptitude Test (administered by an Independent Tester with minimum passing score of 200 verbal and 210 quantitative) Please call school for ATB testing schedule.
 
The school also requires:
 
Valid state I.D.
Birth Certificate
Social Security Card
 
Note:  All students must be at least 16 years of age or older to attend.
FINANCIAL AID
 
There are many ways to help with school costs which include Grants, Scholarships and Student Loans to those who qualify.  But how do you know if you qualify?

Our friendly financial assistance staff is here to assist you and you can meet with one of our officers by appointment or during your school tour.

CLINIC INFORMATION
 
All three Locations operate a Walk In Clinic open to the public, where all services are performed by Students under Teacher supervision.  Services are based on the availability of the students.  Walk in clinic hours may differ by location, so please call the location nearest you.  Consultation and prices are available for clinic patrons at each individual location.
